Theo Baker suffered a serious injury which forced him to be carried out on a stretcher during Sidemen FC’s charity football match against the YouTube All-Stars at the London Stadium. The former Hashtag United footballer turned YouTuber collapsed to the ground in agony after appearing to aggravate a previous injury problem and needed help to be substituted off the field during Saturday’s exhibition match.
The popular YouTube personality, who has over 1.1 million subscribers on the video streaming platform, was considered one of the best players representing the All-Stars lineup.
But coach Mark Goldbridge had to turn to his bench to replace Baker after just 25 minutes of play when he fell to the ground in agony, clutching his hip.
Baker had lined up a shot on the edge of the box from around 20 yards out, but launched his effort well over the bar. It appears he landed awkwardly after shooting and, much to the concern of his teammates, fell to the ground in a heap.
It comes just months after Baker revealed he had undergone surgery to fix a lingering hip problem. This is said to be Baker’s first football game since he went under the knife.
However, it now appears he suffered a setback as he was unable to leave the pitch unattended with medical staff rushing onto the pitch to assist him.
He was replaced in the first half by Goldbridge and as he was carried off the pitch, many of the 60,000 people inside the London stadium chanted his name.
The Sidemen entered the break 2-1 up front after goals from Bahenza and Miniminter canceled out a superb solo strike from Chris MD for the YouTube XI.
The match, featuring rapper and boxer KSI, popular YouTuber Mr Beast and Manchester-based rapper Aitch, attracted a huge crowd to the home of West Ham with more than 2.2 million streamers watching online.
It was announced that the game raised a whopping £1.9m for charity – surpassing the total of £1.1m raised last year – while another half football remained to be played.
Unfortunately for Baker, he will no longer be in the game and is now anxiously awaiting the extent of his latest hip injury.
