A technical glitch with Britain’s air traffic control system caused problems, with some planes in the wrong place.
THE National Air traffic services said on Monday afternoon (August 28) the problem had been resolved, but hundreds of flights had been cancelled.
If you had booked a flight with Ryanair and it was canceled under these circumstances, here are your rights and how to request a refund.

What are your rights on canceled Ryanair flights?
Ryanair’s website indicates that if you are notified of a flight cancellation less than 14 days before the scheduled departure time, you have several options.
This includes requesting a refund or changing your canceled flight to new times/dates on the same itinerary free of charge.
It also adds that you can request “to be re-routed, under comparable transport conditions, to your final destination as soon as possible or at a later date at your convenience, subject to seat availability”.
Ryanair advises you that if your flight is canceled and no suitable Ryanair flight is available, you may contact them for airport assistance at Ryanair officers.

He adds: “You may then be advised to rebook the flights yourself and submit your receipts for reimbursement of your costs. »

If you have experienced a flight delay or cancellation and choose to be re-routed as soon as possible, you may be entitled to the following benefits from Ryanair:
- Meals and refreshments reasonable in relation to the waiting time;
- Two phone calls or emails;
- Reasonable hotel accommodation when a stay of one or more nights becomes necessary;
- Reasonable transport between the airport and the place of accommodation (hotel or other).
They add: “Please note that the above care entitlements do not apply if you choose to be re-routed at a later date, at your convenience, or if you choose to obtain reimbursement. »
Ryanair flight compensation
On Ryanair’s website it says: “Customers who wish to submit travel/transportation/refreshment expenses or a claim for compensation following a flight cancellation or a delay of more than 3 hours on arrival can click below to access the passenger rights claim form.”
What happens if you miss your flight due to airport delays?
The passenger rights claim form can be found hereand they aim to process it within 10 days.
Compensation will not be paid by Ryanair For the following reasons:
- If the delay or cancellation of the flight is beyond Ryanair’s control (extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided by all reasonable measures);
- If you have been informed of a flight cancellation more than 14 days before the scheduled departure date;
- If your flight was delayed and arrived at its final destination less than 3 hours late.
Under the UK Air Passenger Rights 2019, compensation of £220 can be awarded for affected flights of a distance of 1,500km or less.
This can go up to £350 for flights between 1,500 and 3,500km and £520 for longer flights.
