Rugby World Cup: France gets off to a flying start against New Zealand in the opening match
France saved their opening night victory against New Zealand with a very entertaining 27-12 victory against Uruguay like the inspired Rugby World Cup The underdogs made the second-row hosts work desperately for their points while scoring two fine tries.
Uruguay stunned their home fans when Nicolas Freitas collected a loose ball to score the first try after six minutes. Although Antoine Hastoy and the boot of Melvyn Jaminet allowed France to break clear, they were fortunate to lead 13-5 at halftime after a second. Felipe Etcheverry’s visitors’ try was harshly ruled out for obstruction.
Thirteen minutes after the break, Baltazar Amaya scored a brilliant try which Etcheverry converted to bring Uruguay, playing with remarkable confidence, to within one point.
France, struggling with discipline all evening, responded quickly with a try from Peato Mauvaka but still could not take command and managed only one more, for Louis Bielle-Biarrey, meaning she missed out on a four-try bonus point and will hope to perform better in the remaining Pool A matches against Namibia and Italy.

TO TRY! France 27-12 Uruguay 72 minutes
Bielle-Biarrey is the scorer from the corner, it must be a feeling to score at a World Cup at home at 20 years old! France are now approaching bonus point territory, despite Uruguay’s impressions. Jaminet’s conversion from the sideline is good.
