Rudy Giuliani turned himself in to authorities at a jail in Atlanta, Georgia, where he is charged in connection with an alleged scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election on behalf of Donald Trump.

The former New York mayor, who became Trump’s personal attorney during his tenure in the White House, is one of 19 people charged by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis earlier this month with the former president.

Giulianiwho became a prominent voice on the airwaves exposing voter fraud in the days after Trump’s defeat, is accused by Willis of coercing lawmakers in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Michigan to “illegally appoint” presidential voters from their states, among other acts.

The 79-year-old faces 13 charges, including a violation of Georgia’s racketeering laws. He surrendered to Fulton County authorities on Wednesday afternoon, before being released on $150,000 bond.

A lawyer for Giuliani did not respond to a request for comment.

The 98-page indictment filed last week against Trump and a number of his associates is one of four criminal cases facing the former president, who remains the clear favorite to return as the Republican presidential nominee. presidential election of 2024.

Trump has been charged by federal prosecutors in Washington with attempted corruption of the 2020 election results, and separately with alleged mishandling of sensitive government documents.

He was also charged by the Manhattan District Attorney for allegedly staging a scheme involving “secret money” payments to an adult film actress. He pleaded not guilty in the three previous cases.

Willis previously said his office would ask the judge this week to set a trial date within the next six months: “We want to move this case forward. »
