Lucas Paqueta has been dropped from the Brazil squad after his move to Manchester City fell through amid an FA investigation.

- Removed from Brazil squad
WHAT HAPPENED? The Football Association are looking closely at the Brazilian’s betting activity as they suspect there has been a breach of their football betting guidelines. Since the matter is under investigation, Manchester City have decided to withdraw from the transfer which would have seen Paqueta complete a £70m ($89m) move to the Etihad from West Ham.
Now the player has suffered another setback as he was retired from the Brazil national team manager Fernando Diniz’s team as he wants the 23-year-old ‘to solve these problems’.
WHAT THEY SAID: “I’m a guy who… what protects me all my life is the truth. Paqueta was on the list. He’s a player that I really like. It’s a matter of preservation, letting him solve these issues, which go beyond the game,” he said.
“Make it more comfortable to solve. We had these problems here in Brazil. It takes time for things to clear up. He’s a player I love, even though we’ve never worked together. The CBF will have its doors open to receive him as soon as he positively resolves these problems that we had at the last minute.”
THE BIGGEST PICTURE: It has been reported that the FA are investigating bets placed with bookmakers in Brazil which involve in-game incidents rather than the final outcome of West Ham matches. However, Paqueta has not yet faced a commission of inquiry and he maintains his innocence.
