The win lifts Newcastle up to 11th, now level on points with Brentford, but they sit below the Bees on goal difference. Next up for them is the Champions League, where they will face Milan on Tuesday. Brentford’s unbeaten start to the season is over and they will hope to bounce back against Everton next weekend.

Newcastle return to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Brentford. It was a very close first half, with both goalkeepers each making a superb save to keep things level. Newcastle increased the pressure after the break, however, and thought they had taken the lead when Wilson pushed them over the line, only for the game to be ruled out for a foul on Flekken. Moments later the keeper tripped Gordon to give away a penalty which was confidently dispatched by Wilson. The hosts were awarded another penalty late in the match for a Mbuemo handball, but VAR overturned the decision due to a foul on the striker just before.

In the first of nine minutes added here, Brentford are still on the ball. Schade carries it forward on the right, but fails to spot a cross as Newcastle have almost everyone in their box.
