Newcastle United – Newcastle United signs Lewis Hall

Newcastle United have signed defender Lewis Hall from Chelsea on a season-long loan.

The deal includes an obligation for the Magpies to make the transfer permanent next summer based on performance-related criteria.

A childhood fan of Newcastle United, Lewis is the fifth arrival at St. James’ Park this summer and will wear the number 20 shirt.

The 18-year-old full-back is considered one of Chelsea’s highest-rated Academy graduates and has made 12 senior appearances for the Blues, including starts in both Premier League games against Newcastle United this season last.

He was named Chelsea Academy Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season, just two years later. Tino Deliveramento received the same accolade – and he received the award on the pitch at Stamford Bridge before a 1-1 draw with the Magpies in May.

Lewis said: “I’m very proud. My family and I are Newcastle fans, and for me and my brother growing up we learned we were Newcastle. They’re a great club and I can’t wait to get started. . .

“I gained a lot of experience last year from some big games and I was really proud of how I grew as a player and as a person. To be here at Newcastle now, the club who I have supported since I was a child, I am honored and very proud to wear this shirt.

“It’s very exciting. When you think back to last season and the way the team did – not just the results, but the performance of the team – it was amazing.

“There are so many talented players and we also have the Champions League now, so there are many different competitions in which I know the team will want to succeed and hopefully win a trophy or two as well. .”

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe said: “I am delighted to welcome Lewis to Newcastle United.

“He’s a player we’ve been following closely, as have a number of clubs, so it’s very happy to secure him and add a player of his quality, versatility and high potential to our team. team.

“I would like to thank everyone involved for their tireless work in attracting the players we have.

“A lot of time, effort and resources go into a transfer window, but we have real unity across the board here and I appreciate that teamwork and support.”
