Newcastle have agreed a £28million transfer to chelsea left-back Lewis Hall, according to reports.

As Mail Sport revealed on Tuesdaythe Magpies are increasingly interested in the Blues’ academy prospect and are keen to buy him outright.

The 18-year-old had an agreement in principle for a new contract at Stamford Bridge, with Hall set to sign a new six-year deal with his boyhood club, only to go on loan with crystal palace for the 2023/24 campaign.

Chelsea have valued their player at £30million, and the fee agreed with Newcastle has the potential to rise with add-ons.

According to Sports TelegraphHall represents an opportunity to offload a valuable player for pure profit – due to his academic roots – as he seeks to comply with spending rules.

Since taking over from co-owner Todd Boehly in May 2022, Chelsea have spent more than £900million in three transfer windows and are preparing for more recruitment before the window closes in two weeks.

Hall has made 17 first-team appearances for the Blues since his breakthrough in the 2021/22 season, and was named academy player of the year at the end of last term.

However, head coach Mauricio Pochettino has a stacked deck in the position, with Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella and Ian Maatsen all ahead of the teenager as things stand.

The deal is said to have been led by co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali, who has been an active presence during Chelsea’s negotiations this summer.

Newcastle were previously considering a move for Cucurella as they try to bolster their defensive ranks and compete with regular starter Dan Burn.

The Tyneside club have had a lively transfer window so far, having confirmed moves for Southampton’s Tino LivramentoHarvey Barnes of relegated Leicester, and their historic summer signing, Sandro Tonali, lured from AC Milan to the tune of £52m.

The Italian midfielder had a memorable debut, putting his name on the scoresheet after scoring one of five as the Magpies beat Aston Villa in St James’ Park 5-1 win.
