Wolves have rejected an opening bid from Manchester City worth £47million for Matheus Nunes.
Talks are still ongoing and City are considering pursuing another offer for the Portuguese midfielder.
However, City have also shown in the past that they are ready to walk away from goals if they disagree on their assessment.
Wolves signed Nunes in a club-record £42.2m deal in August last year, paying an initial fee of £38m plus £4.2m in add-ons .
The 24-year-old showed a glimpse of his quality by scoring a superb volley against Chelsea last season, but it remains his only goal for the club in 41 appearances.

Nunes was expelled Wolves lost 4-1 at home to Brighton on Saturday.

Silva extends his contract with Man City until 2026
Bernardo Silva has signed a contract extension at Manchester City until 2026.
Silva, who joined City from Monaco in 2017, won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Champions League during his six years at the Etihad.

The three-time winners now have Silva for another year after agreeing to extend his stay beyond 2025.
The Portuguese attacking midfielder says he is staying at City because it ‘gives me that opportunity to keep winning’.
