Elton John was treated in hospital following a fall at his home on the Côte d’Azur.
The 76-year-old singer was treated overnight for minor injuries at the orthopedic department of the Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco, near his home in Nice.
A spokesperson described the visit as a “precautionary measure”, adding: “After checks, he was immediately discharged this morning and is now back home and in good health”.
John rested in France after the end of his last ambitious and always longer tour, Farewell Yellow Brick Road, which concluded on July 8 at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm.
It began in September 2018 and was originally scheduled to end in 2021, with John reasoning, “It’s time to get off the road so I can fully embrace the next big chapter in my life. I have to devote more time to raising my children.
But the tour was first interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, then extended with new dates. In total, he gave 330 concerts, including one memorable title at Glastonbury festivalthe tour setlist designed to showcase a series of his greatest hits.
During the touring hiatus during the Covid lockdowns, he recorded The Lockdown Sessions, an album of remote or socially distanced collaborations with artists including Stevie Wonder, Lil Nas X, Stevie Nicks, Gorillaz and Metallica. Cold Heart, a song with Dua Lipa interpolating elements from John’s previous hits, topped the charts in the UK and 12 other countries.
